Arsenal Signs Nigerian-Born Defender Ogunneye After Manchester United Exit

Arsenal have added Nigerian-born defender Habeeb Ogunneye to their youth setup after securing his signature following his departure from Manchester United, according to BSNSports.com.ng.

The promising right-back, who is of Nigerian descent, joins the North London club after spending five years in Manchester United’s academy, where he developed through the club’s youth ranks.

Ogunneye completed his medical at Arsenal’s training facility last week before putting pen to paper on his new deal. As part of the agreement, Manchester United will be entitled to 40 per cent of any future transfer fee involving the player.

The young defender is expected to begin his Arsenal career with the club’s Under-21 team. However, opportunities to work alongside Mikel Arteta’s senior players could also come his way as he continues his push towards first-team football.

Although Ogunneye was included in Manchester United’s senior squad on a number of occasions, he did not feature in a competitive first-team match. He has, however, represented England at youth international level.

His exit brings to a close a five-year spell with the Old Trafford club. In a message shared on social media, the defender expressed appreciation for his time at United and said he was looking forward to the next phase of his career.

The signing is in line with Arsenal’s continued investment in emerging talents as the club works to build a stronger bridge between its academy and senior team. For Ogunneye, the move presents a fresh opportunity to develop and compete for a place at the highest level.
