Late Cunha Equaliser Rescues 1-1 Draw for Man Utd at Fulham

Manchester United rescued a point at Fulham with a late 1-1 draw after Matheus Cunha’s deflected 89th-minute equaliser denied the hosts victory.

Fulham took the lead and appeared on course for all three points, but Cunha’s late effort took a deflection to beat the goalkeeper and level the contest.

Fulham head coach Alvaro Arbeloa was left frustrated by the circumstances leading to United’s equaliser, particularly a free-kick awarded to Harry Maguire just 35 seconds before the goal.

Arbeloa described Cesar Palacios’ challenge on Maguire as a soft foul and accused referee Michael Oliver and his team of favouring Manchester United.

The Fulham boss suggested the officials may have been influenced by the controversial decision in last weekend’s Manchester derby, when Erling Haaland’s goal was incorrectly awarded as the winner at Old Trafford.

Despite Fulham’s frustration, United held on for a 1-1 draw to leave both sides sharing the points.
