Troost-Ekong converts to Islam in Qatar

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has reportedly converted to Islam after reciting the Shahadah in Doha, Qatar.

The 33-year-old Al-Ahli defender is currently playing in the Qatar Stars League, having previously featured for clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia.

Troost-Ekong is yet to publicly comment on the development, but news of his reported conversion has already attracted congratulatory messages from Nigerian football fans and supporters.

The defender was Nigeria’s captain at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he led the Super Eagles to the final and was named Player of the Tournament.

His reported decision to embrace Islam comes during his time in the Gulf region, where he continues his football career with Al-Ahli.
