BRENTFORD TRASHES CHELSEA TO MAINTAIN UNBEATEN

Brentford produced a stunning second-half display to beat Chelsea 3-0 in the west London derby, extending their unbeaten Premier League run and moving up to third in the table.

After a goalless first half, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when Jaidon Anthony reacted quickest to head in from close range after Jannik Schuster nodded a corner back across the face of goal.

Chelsea tried to respond, enjoying plenty of possession as they searched for an equaliser, but they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.

The Blues were eventually punished on the counter seven minutes from time. Kevin Schade raced through on goal and saw his effort saved by Emi Martinez, but Igor Thiago followed up to fire into an empty net and make it 2-0.

Brentford completed the rout in stoppage time when substitute Fabio Carvalho finished at the far post following a deflected cross from Schade.

The result leaves Chelsea without a win in their last three league matches, with two defeats during that run. It is also the first time Xabi Alonso’s side have failed to score since he took charge.

Chelsea had edged a quiet opening half, with Pedro Neto and Morgan Rogers producing their side’s closest attempts, but Brentford took control after the interval and made their chances count.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews hailed the victory, describing the occasion as a reward for the work put in by his players ahead of the derby.
