Nigeria’s football authorities are awaiting FIFA’s response after senior officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) arrived in Zurich, Switzerland, for talks with the world football governing body.
The Nigerian delegation comprises NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, NFF Acting General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme and the federation’s Head of Legal Affairs, Obi. The officials reportedly left Nigeria for Switzerland on Monday morning.
Their visit comes after the resignation of former NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and members of the federation’s Executive Committee last Thursday, a development that has thrown the football governing body into a period of uncertainty.
The delegation is expected to formally brief FIFA on the latest situation within the NFF and explain the circumstances surrounding the leadership changes. Discussions are also likely to focus on the process for restoring administrative stability at the federation.
The outcome of the meeting could determine the next phase for Nigerian football, particularly the management of the NFF and the country’s continued participation in international competitions. Nigeria is now waiting for FIFA’s position, with further details expected to emerge after the Zurich discussions.
