Nigeria’s D’Tigress began their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign on the wrong foot after losing 99–81 to South Korea in Berlin, Germany.
The Nigerian side stayed competitive for long spells but struggled to deal with South Korea’s attacking play as the Asian team gradually pulled away to secure an 18-point win.
The result extends Nigeria’s wait for a first victory against an Asian opponent at the Women’s World Cup. D’Tigress also remain without a win in their opening match at the tournament.
Despite the setback, Nigeria still have an opportunity to get their campaign back on track when they take on Hungary in their next Group game.
The meeting with Hungary presents another demanding test for the African champions, who will need a much-improved performance to strengthen their chances of progressing from the group.
Final score: Nigeria 81–99 South Korea.
D’Tigress will now turn their attention to Hungary as they look to bounce back from the opening-day loss.
